THE MENTAL LOAD

This series is about all that we carry inside of us, the things that can weigh heavy on our minds. At the height of CoVid, there were times I thought it would all bury me. All the worries and schedules and coordinating and anxiety.

 

This work is hand-painted paper collage with encaustic wax. The wax creates a cloud over some of the rocks, expressing the fact that we don’t always see the struggles others are going through. We only see what they choose to share. But we all have things we are dealing with. Challenges we are facing.

When I look at these on a day that feels heavy, I think to myself, “Look! Look at all you are trying to balance. Give yourself some grace. You are doing the best you can.”
