Inspiration for my work comes from what I witness in routine life and adjacent surroundings. I  consider myself an observation artist, directing attention to details in life that might otherwise go unnoticed if we are not paying close enough attention. Accessible nature, family roles and dynamics, and reflections on identity are all things that inspire my work. They show an introspective look at how we interact with each other, the world around us, and what I experience in modern motherhood. Morning light on dishes, a momentary glance, a shared emotion, the way a flower falls apart, and a cluster of trees on a city street can all be sources of inspiration. Even in the simplest, most ordinary moments, we can find unexpected meaning and beauty if we are willing to stop and recognize it.

Holly Romano lives and works in Columbus, Ohio. Her paintings and photographs are rooted in the complexities of female identity and being a mother — from caring for children to maintaining a household. She also uses alternative photography processes and mixed media to explore the beauty and vastness of the natural world and hopes to promote wonder and appreciation.

Romano holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University. After a successful career in the graphic design field, she now focuses on fine art photography, painting, mixed media, and alternative processes. Her award-winning artwork has been selected for juried shows and is exhibited nationally.
